CAPTORHINUS MAGNUS

Eureptilia-Captorhinidae

References

In 2002, R. Kissel et Al. described skeletal elements of a large captorhinid that they named Captorhinus Magnus. Beyond the size, this new captorhinid differs from Captorhinus Aguti for the presence of a concave surface on the proximal head of femur, and for the presence of a single row of teeth in the dentary.  Of interest, for the "Homology of Astragalus Problem" is the evidence that in Captorhinus magnus the astragalus is a composite structure derived from three centers of ossification

1) Captorhinus Magnus: dentary lateral

2) Captorhinus Magnus: dentary medial

2) Captorhinus Magnus: maxilla

3) Captorhinus magnus: intermedium (Homology of Astragalus)
