OPHIACODON Synapsida-Eupelycosauria-Ophiacodontidae Ophiacodon is a moderate to large size synapsid eupelycosaur, common in the lower Permian, characterized by large and tall skull with elongate snout, the supraoccipital lacks the lateral expansion above the posttemporal fenestra, in the caniniform region of maxilla there is an ascending process of supracanine buttress, the area in front of the tooth row of transverse flange of pterygoid is edentulous.
